The Choice for NY-21: Golden Age or Washington Stagnation?

Cliff, the Watertown Post’s endorsement of Anthony Constantino has more to do with Donald Trump’s national agenda than with Anthony Constantino personally.

We believe President Trump has a master plan to repair the economic, industrial and political mess created over several decades by both parties. Anthony will go to Washington and help move that plan forward. Blake Gendebien will not. He would obstruct it.

That distinction matters.

I was never really “MAGA,” because I always believed America was great to begin with. I understand the branding, and MAGA supporters are who they are, but my focus is what I call the Golden Age: rebuilding American manufacturing, expanding artificial intelligence and data centers, developing nuclear power, strengthening our borders and creating new opportunities for regions such as Northern New York.

Yes, a member of Congress represents the people of the district. But voters also elect representatives to carry out a national agenda. Supporting that agenda does not make someone less representative of the people when the people elected him precisely because they wanted it advanced.

Your argument makes independence sound noble, but independence without forward motion can quickly become stagnation. If Blake goes to Washington mainly to resist Trump, delay legislation and stifle the Golden Age agenda, how does that improve the lives of the people living here?

Northern New York stands to benefit tremendously from what is coming. Artificial intelligence, data centers, advanced nuclear power, border commerce, manufacturing and even potential Great Lakes name changes could attract investment, tourism and brilliant minds to this region—which, by the way, already has plenty of them.

The Watertown Post has questioned both candidates, and we will continue doing so. Supporting Constantino does not mean handing him a lifetime permission slip or refusing to criticize him when criticism is deserved. It means recognizing which candidate is most likely to help move the country in the direction we believe it needs to go.

From our perspective, Anthony Constantino represents progress toward the Golden Age. Blake Gendebien represents resistance to it.

Cliff believes the representative’s highest virtue should be independence from the president. We believe the voters deserve someone who will help implement the agenda they voted for. Otherwise, Washington gets more obstruction, more political theater and more of the same glorious stagnation it has delivered for decades.

The people of Northern New York do not merely need another voice describing their problems. They need someone positioned to help deliver the solutions.

That is why the Watertown Post endorses Anthony Constantino.
